At Troop 45, we strive to have at least one significant trip each month during the school year, and a week long summer camp and summer high adventure trip
Camping trips are a core of scouting, and provide the opportunity for the scouts to work on their scouting skills and rank advancement.
These trips are also an excellent opportunity to log overnight credits toward the Camping Merit Badge.
Hiking is often a part of many of our trips, and also a requirement for ealry rank advancement.
The hiking trips are used to help the scouts earn the Hiking Merit Badge and prepare for some of the High Adventure trips.
Summer Camp is a key part of our program.
We take this week long opportunity to teach new scouts the basic skills and work on their rank advancement. Often, our new scouts are able to advance through their first two ranks through our Summer Camp program.
Summer Camp is also a great opportunity for the scouts to earn new merit badges.
Our troop also runs fun activities which go beyond those provided by the camp.
We run Excurtion Trips to provide the scouts with some fun activities, which go above and beyond the typical camping trip.
These have included extended weekend trips to Washington D.C., Gettysburgh, and Boston.
Other trips have included such activities as West Point Footall, Whitewater Rafting, and Rifle Shooting.
Each summer, our older scouts have an opportunity to participate in a BSA High Adventure trip.
These have included Philmont (hiking), Sea Base (sailing), Northern Tier (cannoing), and Alaska (glaiciers!).
Each January our patrols take part in our district's Klondike Derby at the Muttontown Preserve.
It is a great opportunity for the scouts to put their skills to the test.
And Troop 45 is proud to have a long list of winning patrols!
In September, we kick off our scouting year with a Family Camping trip.
This gives the parents an opportunity to see how the troop operates.
And since the camping is right off the parking lot, it does not require the parents to worry about hiking in.
A key aspect to scouting is Service to the Community.
Troop 45 provide service in several ways.
- Eagle Scout Projects
- Scouting for Food
- Participating in parades and ceremonies
